The name of this Japanese blend literally translates to “one flavor chili pepper.” These ground red pepper flakes are spicy and subtle, ground finely enough to incorporate seamlessly into all sorts of dishes like snacks and soups.

  • This simple, ubiquitous condiment can be found all over the tables of ramen shops in Japan.
  • Pairs deliciously with Japanese cuisine, ramen, katsu curry, miso buttered corn, rice dishes, noodle dishes, soups, French fries, edamame, sushi, seared tuna.
  • Unlike its sister blend shichimi togarashi, which is a umami-packed mix of seven flavours and spices, ichimi togarashi is simply the red chile flakes on their own. The blend was created in the 1600s by herb dealers who sold it in pharmacies, and street vendors soon began using it as a seasoning and offering it at festivals. The red chile is always an integral component.
  • You’ll want to sprinkle this Japanese chili on everything. Unlike the coarsely ground red chili flakes found in everyone’s kitchen cabinets, the more finely ground Ichimi Togarashi readily spices up your meals and snacks with its not-too-hot heat, absorbing better than the larger flakes and seeds. Use it anywhere you want to add a touch of spice.
    • Chilli powder.

    • Each jar contains 20g, approximately 14 x 1/2 Tsp,

    • Recommended usage for maximum freshness is 9 months.
